Thanks for covering our Blog. Other libraries are putting out Firefox plugins for their catalogs; I haven't seen any for databases yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time...

According to an email,. Mathias would like to post the following comment. Blogsome's spam guard won't let him (too many links with dashes, I think):

"The actual event Jimmy is referring to was a little more complex:

http://mathiasschindler.de/2005/10/11/football-is-coming-home/

and

http://mathiasschindler.de/2005/10/12/we-suck-the-same-way-this-internet-does/

Sorry for simply dumping links.

And yes, there is a wide range of spelling styles of the B-word. And yes, Brockhaus is only equivalent to EBI in terms of reputation and role, not in terms of content or affiliation."

Well, I am not sure if this is a job for fact-checking.

First of all, you are correct in spelling Britannica the way you did and mentioning Brockhaus.

It's not a job of journalists to correct statements from third persons in an interview, unless you are Bill O'Reilly.

Nathan Kaiser, fact-checker

[Source: EBlogger] quoted: There’s a brief interview with Jimmy Wales at nPost.com that has this entertaining little tidbit:

By the way: What is the correct product title? Is it "Encyclopaedia Britannica Ultimate Reference Suite 2006" or "Britannica Ultimate Reference Suite 2006"

Your store link says "Britannica Ultimate Reference Suite 2006" while amazon.com has only listed a "Encyclopedia Britannica 2006 Ultimate Reference Suite"

a) Is "Encyclopaedia" part of the product name?
b) Is there a preferred way for people with no ligature key on their keyboard (and no way to access the Character table) such as "ae" or "e" (*shudder*)?
c) Is the year name before or after the URS?

There has to be a corporate ID guru somewhere who has already given this answer...

I'm not sure that what Tom had in mind was a face to face discussion with each and every interested party.

I'm sorry no one from Britannica was available to speak to you in Frankfurt. As you've seen here I'm more than happy to engage you in a public discussion of the issues. If you have thoughts on the matter, I'd encourage you to blog them.

I was referring to the difference between "What would be beneficial now would be [..] a frank and honest discussion of the virtues and shortcomings of every type of information source" in comparison to your email from September 20 and my subsequent reply and the following disappointment.

I'm not sure what the first part of your comment and the second have to do with one another. I think Tom was in Chicago at the time. Who did you talk to in Frankfurt? What did you ask them?

I found Tom's answer quite interesting. When I was at the EBI booth at the Frankfurt Book Fair, all I got was "sure, we could sit around for a while but I really don't think that we have something to talk about".

It was a little bit disappointing after your offer some weeks ago.
