Wouldn’t it be great if EBI followed the example of the giants it is standing on by releasing their source code unter a free license? :) AFAIK, EBIs business modell relies on the value of the content, not the IR software.

Actually, EB has made signficant contributions to open source projects, notably Apache (Britannica employs several committers to the Apache Software Foundation, and a couple of members) and the Axion databse project (which was founded by and for quite some time primarily developed by Britannica)

Thanks for the info. I was unable to find anything on eb.com about this, except this press release
Of course, there are other sites on the net and the debian mailing lists which document EBIs involvement at least in parts.
